Leonard Elschenbroich

Leonard has excited interest as one of the most charismatic cellists of his generation since receiving the Leonard Bernstein award at the opening concert of the 2009 Schleswig Holstein Festival. Since then, he joined the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist scheme in 2012, a prestigious award offering performances and recordings with all the BBC orchestras and at the BBC Proms.

Leonard has a keen interest in contemporary music, commissioning and premiering works by Luca Lombardi (Essay 3 for solo cello), Arlene Sierra (Butterflies Remember a Mountain for piano trio), Carl Vine (The Village for piano trio), Suzanne Farrin and Mark Simpson, whose piece, Night Music, was commissioned for Leonard by the BBC and performed and broadcast live at Wigmore Hall in March 2014.

In 2012 Leonard was named BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, he was Artist-in-Residence of Deutschlandfunk for the 2014-15 season, and Artist-in-Residence at the Philharmonic Society Bremen from 2013-2016.

...and has performed across five continents. A multi-faceted virtuoso, she performs music from Baroque to the 21st century, the strictly Classical to Gypsy, Klezmer, Argentinian, Balkan and Japanese music.

Harriet has taken part in many world premieres playing music specifically written for her as a soloist, including Robert Fokkens' violin concerto premiered at the Southbank Centre in London and Deborah Prichard's 'Wall of Water' violin concerto, inspired by the paintings of Maggi Hambling.

In addition to her solo work she is a lover of chamber music and is a founder member of the innovative trio 'Kosmos Ensemble' and violin duo ‘Retorica. The Classical range is explored in Retorica's internationally acclaimed CD of British Violin Duos, which was chosen as 'Editor's Choice' in Gramophone Magazine, cited for Harriet's "superbly responsive playing ... faultless technique and unfailing insight."

The orchestra is made up of a mixture of local artists and overseas professionals and is led by Anna Smith who plays with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Bursary places are offered for up to four young musicians to perform in each concert.

The orchestra has performed with many established soloists including Sir James Galway, Nicola Benedetti, Leonard Elschenbroich, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Lawrence Power, Alison Balsom. It has also worked with such singers as Elizabeth Watts, Sophie Bevan, Lawrence Zazzo, Victoria Simmonds and Graeme Danby.

Wu Qian - Piano

She also played the Saint-Saens Concerto No.2 with the Philharmonia Orchestra in St. John’s Smith Square. She made her debut recital at the South Bank Purcell Room in 2000 and has since played there again on several occasions, including a recital broadcast by BBC Radio 3.

Qian has given recitals throughout Europe including the Steinway Halls of Hamburg where her performance was broadcast throughout Asia. Other international engagements have included appearances at the Steinway Hall in New York, the Hong Kong City Hall, the Koblenz Festival in Germany, the Santander International Festival, the Yale Summer Music Festival.

Qian’s debut recording of works by Schumann, Liszt and the young composer Alexander Prior was released in April 2009 on the Dal Segno label to world-wide acclaim, drawing comparisons to many of the great pianists of the last century.

Miloš began his musical education in Kragujevac and in 2002, he was awarded a full scholarship from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) studying with Professor Owen Murray.

In 2004, Miloš made his debut at London’s Purcell Room as part of the Park Lane Group Young Artists Series to critical acclaim and was selected to perform as soloist at the Foundation Awards Ceremony before HRH The Princess Royal at the University of London Senate House. As a result of his diverse musical interests, Miloš has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician at many prestigious classical and world music festivals. He enjoys performing with the London Tango Quintet, Kosmos Ensemble, AccordDuo and the Balkan group Paprika and regularly performs with acclaimed violinists David Juritz, Harriet Mackenzie, classical guitarist Craig Ogden, cellists Adrian Bradbury and Matthew Sharp and soprano Bibi Heal.

Miloš also works with leading opera companies and in 2017, he performed Brett Dean’s new opera of Shakespeare’s great tragedy, Hamlet, with Glyndebourne Opera’s touring production.

In 2014, Miloš was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music ARAM for his contribution to music.

So-Ock Kim - Viola

So-Ock has given numerous critically acclaimed performances around the world and at the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Barbican Hall in London. Abroad she has toured throughout Asia, Europe and the US, performing concertos and recitals in international music festivals Schleswig Holstein, Beethoven Festival, Ravinia, Mecklenburg, BBCProms, Radio France Festival, Herrenchimsee, Seoul Spring, Casals and Aldeburgh.

So-Ock has made numerous acclaimed international performances and has recently performed with Krzystof Penderecki and the Polish Radio Orchestra, Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with Vassily Petrenko, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera North, City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players, Suwon Philharmonic, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Westdeutsche Sinfonia and the English Chamber Orchestra.

So-Ock is an active chamber musician and is a violin professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with Mitsuko Uchida, Tabea Zimmermann, Garth Knox, Thomas Hoppe, the Arcanto Quartett and Gerhard Schultz at Marlboro Festival, Salzburg Festival and Beethovenhaus in Bonn. She has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and recorded for Delphian and Navona. Rosalind has also been guest principal viola with the European Union Chamber Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Rosalind studied with Ian Jewel, David Takeno, Kim Kashkashian, and Miguel da Silva at Cambridge University and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she was also a Fellow. With the Albion Quartet, she is quartet in residence at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Rosalind looks forward to teaching at the Royal Irish Academy of Music from September 2018.

Isang Enders - Cello

At the age of twenty, Isang Enders was appointed principal cello of the Dresden Staatskapelle, making him the youngest section leader in Germany. During his four years with the orchestra, he also co-founded the Gohrisch Shostakovich Festival alongside Tobias Niederschlag.

Isang Enders recently made his debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra, enjoyed collaborations with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker and Stavanger Symphony orchestras and performs regularly with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a dedicated chamber musician, he continues to work closely with the pianist Igor Levit, with whom he has toured extensively, as well as Kit Armstrong and Sunwook Kim.
